Outdoor Garden Design

We have been working on a project with Newby James, Garden Designer. www.newbyjames.com

Designing Gardens has got me thinking about the idea of improving outdoor areas. Often, there can be a lack of space to grow flowers, vegetables and plants. However, you can garden in surprisingly small spaces. The first step is to think creatively when looking at potential surfaces to use; balconies, window sills, walkways, stairwells and railings.

It is a good idea to "build up from the ground" if working with a small balcony by purchasing or building a shelf (consider recycling old wood scraps) for various herbs and plants. By installing a few hooks you could hang some planter baskets from the ceiling or fasten a box of flowers or herbs to a railing. Several shelves fastened to a blank wall can provide surface area for flower pots and vegetable pots. By adding a hammock or small table and stools you can have the satisfaction of creating a relaxing space to chill out or dine in; utilizing some of those fresh herbs. Check out some ideas below:
